In the autumn of 1993, I began work in Kyoto on an entirely new series of images with the ultra large format 8×20 camera. These photographs would later become a hand-made, limited-edition book. The book of twelve copies was set in letter press type and bound accordion-style, in luxurious silks, by one of the oldest book binding families still remaining in Kyoto. Originally planned as a single volume, the book grew to become a set, one with vertical images and one horizontal. In this way, I was able to express in quotations and haiku the different, and yet similar, approaches to creating a work of art from western and Japanese viewpoints.
All photographs are available for purchase. Sizes up to 4 X 10 feet.
